Thermal insulation board calculator

Work out how many insulation boards (XPS or EPS) you need and their volume from the area, board size, thickness and waste — and the thermal resistance if you enter the conductivity.

Inputs

The values shown are an illustrative example, not product data; replace them with your project values and the approved TDS.

m²

The net area to be treated, without waste.

mm

From the TDS of the approved product.

mm

From the TDS of the approved product.

mm

From the thermal design and specification.

%

An allowance for cuts, overlaps, details and site losses.

W/m·K

The declared value in the TDS; used for the thermal resistance.

From the supply data.

How it is calculated

  1. Board area (m²) = length (mm) × width (mm) ÷ 1,000,000
  2. Boards = round up [ area × (1 + waste %) ÷ board area ]
  3. Volume (m³) = area × thickness (mm) ÷ 1000 · R = thickness (m) ÷ λ

QQuestions

Questions clients ask

How many insulation boards do I need?

Divide the area by one board’s area and add cutting waste around edges and penetrations. The thickness is set by the U-value the design requires under the Saudi Building Code.
