Joint sealant calculator

Work out the sealant volume and the number of cartridges or sausages from the joint section and length, with the backer rod length.

Inputs

The values shown are an illustrative example, not product data; replace them with your project values and the approved TDS.

mm

The width at the time of sealing.

mm

The depth above the backer rod, from the width-to-depth ratio in the TDS.

m

The total length of joints.

ml

e.g. 310 ml cartridges or 600 ml sausages.

%

An allowance for cuts, overlaps, details and site losses.

How it is calculated

  1. Volume per metre (ml) = width (mm) × depth (mm)
  2. Volume (L) = volume per metre × length (m) ÷ 1000 × (1 + waste %)
  3. Cartridges = round up [ volume (ml) ÷ cartridge size (ml) ]

QQuestions

Questions clients ask

How many sealant cartridges do I need for my joints?

Sealant volume = joint width × sealant depth × length (1 mm × 1 mm × 1 m = 1 ml), divided by the cartridge or sausage volume, plus waste. The width-to-depth ratio and the backer rod follow the product data sheet.
