What this detail solves
In a tank the water is inside, so the waterproofing or lining goes on the inner face — and its weakest point is the wall–floor corner, where movement and the construction joint meet. The concrete surface is opened, repaired and levelled, a cove is formed in repair mortar, and the primer and lining coats run continuously from the floor up the wall. Potable-water tanks use materials approved for contact with drinking water.
Critical points
- Open the surface and remove laitance by grinding or blasting; repair honeycombing and tie holes.
- Measure the concrete moisture before lining; it must be within the product TDS limits.
- The cove keeps stress and cracking out of the square corner.
- Potable tanks: materials approved for drinking-water contact (for example WRAS or NSF/ANSI/CAN 61) and a full cure before filling.
- Fill-test the tank and record it before use.
